our history

Knowing that ALL children have the right to education, health and well-being, Aunty Pearl Trindall, together with her husband Uncle Joe, campaigned for the establishment of Birrelee MACS to provide children with a culturally safe education. Today, we continue to provide all children with quality education, whilst also delivering a service that promotes the health and well-being of children and their families.

1970

Birrelee began in the back yards of our Aunties’ house where children would come to learn and be cared for whilst parents went to work. A local church hosted the families for a short time and funding was sort through Budget Based Funding.

1986

The Birrelee Childcare Centre was purpose built on Macgregor Street, West Tamworth.

2010

Birrelee received Capital Works funding to upgrade the service, both inside and out.

2018

Birrelee went from Budget Based Funding to the new Jobs for Families Package which saw a major change in the service operational requirements and reporting.

2022

Birrelee underwent their first Assessment and Rating under the National Quality Framework and received an ‘Exceeding’ rating, the only M.A.C.S service in the state to receive this rating.

2023

Birrelee continues to provide a high quality of education and care whilst delivering a culturally strong curriculum.
